Our Tuesday is warm and sunny across northern Minnesota and into northwest Wisconsin where highs climb into low to mid-80s. Cloudy skies and a few showers are found looking along and east of a line from Hayward to Ashland, allowing temps to fall closer to 70 near Ironwood. The dry conditions in place over northeast Minnesota makes for another day with near-critical fire weather.
A weak cold front passes from the north this evening and overnight. The drier air will make it difficult for this front to generate much in terms of showers or even cloud cover. However, the front may bring wildfire smoke to the surface. A smoky smell and some reduction to air quality is possible. Lows stay milder in upper 40s to mid-50s. Wednesday features a return of an east wind, keeping shoreline communities in the 60s. Highs inland range from mid-70s to mid-80s looking from northeast to southwest across the Northland.
A breezy east wind hangs around for the end of the week, Grandma’s Marathon weekend, and into the start of next week. By Monday, highs out of the reach of Lake Superior will be in the 80s. There has been a trend toward dry weather persisting through the day Friday, taking away or chance for rain for the William A. Irvin 5k. There is still a 30% chance for rain on Saturday during the half and full marathon races. Drought conditions will be exacerbated by an ongoing dry stretch overall into next week.
