December ended being the warmest December on record since the weather service moved up on top of the hill in 1950. It was the second warmest over all dating back to 1877 when the weather service was by the lake. The light snow we got right before the end of the New Year made us 7th all time for least snowy Decembers finishing the month with only 4.9” of snow.

Now its 2024 and the question on our minds is if we’ll finally get some snow and colder temperatures. Temperatures are going to start feeling closer to normal as highs look to stay in the 20s. Overnight lows will finally get colder too. We’re finally going to be looking at temperatures staying cold enough for making ice on lake, making ice on outdoor skating rinks, and for making snow.

There is chance of some light snow coming later in the week for all the regions. It doesn’t look like it will be much but looks to be enough that will stick around. Before we get there, some light snow is possible tonight north of the Iron Range. Northwest winds look to continue light snow for the south shore tonight and tomorrow.
