Justin Liles: Moderate Rain, Freezing rain, some snow, and windy conditions

A messy storm system will continue to bring rainfall and rain across the region. There is the potential for some ice and light snow over northern Minnesota. The heaviest rain is expected tonight through Monday night, with most areas seeing additional amounts from around an inch or two.

Tonight looks for moderate rain with lighter amounts in northwest Wisconsin. A glaze of ice and light snow mixing in is possible over north-central Minnesota. Icing up to 0.2 inches is expected from around and north of Walker to the Iron Range and Arrowhead, along with up to an inch of snow.

On Christmas day rain, freezing rain, and snow (far north) persists for much of central to northern Minnesota. In addition, winds are expected to be very gusty from the northwest on Monday into Tuesday.

By Tuesday freezing rain begins to taper off up north. The rest of the Northland will see rain which looks to linger into Wednesday. From Thursday into next weekend, drier weather is expected along with colder temperatures.

Rain. Patchy fog. Low around 38. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
CHRISTMAS DAY
Rain. Patchy fog. High near 41. Windy, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
MONDAY NIGHT
Rain. Patchy fog. Low around 34. Windy, with a northeast wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
TUESDAY
Rain. High near 38. Windy, with an east wind 25 to 30 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
WEDNESDAY
A chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. North wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
