Brandon Weatherz: Light snow today

Our Tuesday is cool with highs in low 20s to low 30s. We start off with sun, then a weak system crosses the Northland through the day bringing a return of clouds and scattered light snow showers. Snow arrives from the west through the morning and afternoon and exits to the east this evening and overnight. Expect a dusting with amounts ranging generally from a trace to around an inch. Clouds will break up this evening and overnight, but if clouds are slow to leave, it would interfere with our view of the planetary alignment tonight.

Temps fall into single digits above and below zero tonight with a blustery west wind. Our Wednesday then remains chill and breezy with highs staying in the 20s under mostly sunny skies. Skies stay clear tomorrow night and allow temps to fall to single digits above and below zero once more. Thursday brings a return to highs near and above freezing, and our next chance of snow.

We’re tracking a late week system that currently looks to bring widespread accumulation Thursday afternoon and evening with slick travel expected. Friday morning will bring a brief dry period, then snow returns from the south Friday afternoon and evening. As of now, Friday’s travel impacts look to stay just south of the Twin Ports focusing on east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. These areas may see heavy snow accumulation. Accumulation potential will depend on the system’s track, and a shift to either north or south could make quite the difference.
