A southwest wind has sent warmer conditions into the region overnight, and this mild streak will take us through the weekend. Areas of patchy fog are possible this morning. Cloudy skies gradually break up a bit in the late afternoon and evening. We head out the door to temps in the teens and 20s, then we top off in mid-30s to near 40 this afternoon.
Temps hold mostly in the 20s overnight, then highs for our Saturday will be similar to today under a mix of clouds and sun. Patchy fog is possible Saturday night with fewer clouds and lows in the teens. Sunday will be another day in mid and upper 30s.
A system will bring widespread snow from the southwest Sunday in the late afternoon and evening. A snowy period will then take us through Sunday night and Monday with slick travel. As of now, a general 3-6” is possible from the Head of Lake Superior to the tip of the Arrowhead and across northwest Wisconsin. Locally higher amounts are possible along the North Shore and South Shore. Amounts look to drop off as you look northwest, but a general 1-3” should reach from Brainerd across the Iron Range. After this snowy start to the week, a quieter stretch cooperates nicely with mid-week travel.
