An area of snow showers has brought slippery stretches over parts of north central Minnesota this morning. We’ll continue to look west near Aitkin, Grand Rapids, International Falls, and west of there for 1-3” today. Snow showers will try and graze the Twin Ports, Arrowhead, and the northwest corner of Wisconsin today and tonight. A breezy east wind develops today and continues each day through Sunday. This will allow for periods of light lake effect snow along the North Shore in this timeframe, and waves will be building.
Widespread snow is still on track to arrive from the southwest Thursday afternoon and evening. However, accumulation potential has fallen since previous forecasts. The Twin Cities are in a Winter Storm Watch from noon Thursday until 6 am Friday with 3-5” expected. That’s the timeframe travel for the MSHSL State Boys Hockey Tournament will be affected.
1-3” fills out east central Minnesota toward the Twin Ports and across northwest Wisconsin. Less than an inch is expected moving north to the Iron Range. Snow tapers off to the east Friday morning, but light lake effect may linger near the Head of Lake Superior. We look west Saturday afternoon for the arrival of widespread snow that could bring accumulation through Sunday. This could bring slick roads to those traveling home from the State Hockey Tournament.
