Our Wednesday begins wet with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rain is possible. This early round tapers off from west to east through the morning. We look north near Koochiching County in the late afternoon and evening for a return of showers and thunderstorms. An isolated storm here may be capable of 1” hail and damaging wind gusts. Tonight’s rain stays mostly along and north of the international border. There’s a low chance for showers and thunderstorms to pop up Thursday afternoon and evening. As of this morning, a low chance for rain continues Friday and Saturday, but the better chance for a wet Minnesota Fishing Opener is trending south of the Northland.
Temperatures are warm again today with highs in the mid-70s for areas away from Lake Superior. Similar to yesterday, a light east wind will allow for a temperature difference of close to 20 degrees from the Duluth International Airport to Canal Park. We stay mild tonight with lows in upper 40s to mid-50s under partly cloudy skies. Patchy fog may develop. Thursday will be another summery day with a south wind trying to spread the warmth down the hill in the Twin Ports. Duluth should officially hit 70 for the first time this year. A stronger lake wind will return Friday, but inland communities will be back in low to upper 70s. Saturday will have an east wind around 20 mph and cloudy skies. Mother’s Day begins a dry stretch with a breezy east wind lingering.
