Brandon Weatherz: Staying cool with more clouds

Our weather continues to be rather mundane until the system that may impact the region at the end of the week. The National Weather Service in Duluth will no longer issue Frost Advisories or Freeze Warnings when those conditions are in the forecast since the growing season has come to an end for most, with the exception being locally near Lake Superior. The South Shore, Arrowhead, and Twin Ports are where we see a chance for light rain this morning. Cloudy skies will be stubborn for most today with clearer conditions found looking west toward Brainerd. Highs stay in mid-40s to mid-50s looking east to west.
Frost will once again be possible tonight in the clear spots as lows range from low 30s to low 40s. Stubborn clouds may keep some areas above frost territory as was the case this morning. Wednesday is partly sunny with highs in upper 40s north to mid-50s south. Winds develop out of the east on Wednesday and ramp up near 20 mph on Thursday, directing light lake effect rain chances along the North Shore. Winds will be strongest and waves will be highest on Friday with gusts near 35 mph expected.
Widespread rain will arrive from the south Thursday night into Friday. A lower chance for rain lingers Saturday in the Twin Ports with a better chance in northwest Wisconsin, then we’ll look to the South Shore for additional rain Sunday. Heavy rain accumulation is possible in parts of east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin Friday and Friday night. The track of this system and area of heavy rain potential may still shift either north or south.
