Duluth fell below freezing for the first time of the season last night. Temperatures start out mostly in mid-20s to low 30s for our Tuesday, leading to the need to dress warm and allow time to defrost the windshield before hitting the road. We’ll also need to be on the lookout for locally dense fog, mostly in northwest Wisconsin. The surface high pressure that provided the dry air for our chilly morning exits the region to the east today, and a south wind developing behind it will allow temps to warm up nicely this afternoon. Highs will range from mid-50s east to mid-60s west under mostly sunny skies. Cloud cover increases tonight and keeps temperatures much milder than this morning with lows staying in the 40s.
A weak low pressure system will approach from the west tonight, cross Minnesota on Wednesday, and exit towards Michigan on Thursday. Bands of light rain will follow the system in its path with showers arriving from the west tonight, remaining widespread tomorrow, and moving eastward across the Northland Thursday morning and afternoon. Accumulation will be rather light with most areas picking up 0.1 to 0.25″ over the two days. Areas of 0.25 to 0.5″ are possible in parts of north central and northeast Minnesota.
An additional round of scattered showers is possible Friday. Highs will be in the 50s across the region Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The weekend will be a touch cooler but seasonable with upper 40s to mid-50s. A low chance for passing showers lingers for both Saturday and Sunday as of this morning.
