Brandon Weatherz: Gloomy stretch carries into a cold weekend
Our Wednesday is gray with overcast skies and areas of fog. We look near the Head of Lake Superior and a bit up the North Shore for areas of misty and drizzly conditions that may persist through the day. Temperatures hold rather steady in the Twin Ports in mid-40s to near 50. As a region, we start the day with temps ranging from upper 30s north by the international border to near 50 in much of northwest Wisconsin. We’ll only rise a few degrees with highs in mid-40s to mid-50s looking north to south across the Northland.
Scattered showers build back into the region Wednesday night and periods of rain from that system continue Thursday into Friday. We’ll look near and north of the Iron Range for snow to mix in Thursday night and Friday morning before we dry out. Flakes may fly in these areas, but surface temps above freezing are expected to prevent accumulation. Both Saturday and Sunday then feature highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s. We look south of the Twin Ports in east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin for light snow on Saturday. This is another round with nothing expected to stick. As we settle into a chilly stretch, plan for Halloween costumes to work with winter coats, hats, and gloves!
