Summer in October continues for one more day before it starts to feel like fall. Highs reach upper 70s to low 80s today with a breezy south wind once again directing cooler air from Lake Superior along the North Shore. We start with sun, then cloud cover increases from the west ahead of scattered showers and thunderstorms that arrive this evening and overnight. Severe potential stays to our west with Bemidji on the edge of the chance for large hail and damaging winds. Heavy rain and high localized totals are possible in north central Minnesota. Rain reaches the Twin Ports overnight but struggles to extend as far east as Hayward and Ashland. Scattered showers linger Wednesday, mostly in the morning. Around .25” is expected in the Twin Ports from the Tuesday night into Wednesday round.
Wednesday begins with lows in mid-50s to mid-60s, but then highs stay just a few degrees higher ranging from near 60 to near 70. Winds will be around 15 mph out of the west. Another cold front rolls through Wednesday night into Thursday to bring more scattered showers, gusty winds, and trigger another shot of cooler air with highs in low 50s to low 60s. Yet another round of showers sweeps the region Thursday night into Friday. By Friday, temps have a hard time climbing as high as 50, and widespread frost is possible Friday night. The weekend will be generally quiet, we’ll just have to start dressing for a typical October chill in the air.
