Brandon Weatherz: Cool October weekend ahead

A blustery day lies ahead with northwest winds sustained 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. The North Shore of Cook County is in a Wind Advisory from 11 am until 5 pm with gusts near 45 mph here that could displace unsecure objects and bring down tree limbs. The morning is wet with scattered showers reaching for east central Minnesota across northwest Wisconsin. Widespread rain exits to the east through the morning and afternoon with a low chance for a passing shower lingering.
The gusty northwest winds carrying cool air over lakes could result in some lake effect rain showers, even on some of the larger inland lakes. Lake Superior’s South Shore will see this, allowing light rain chances to linger along the South Shore today, tonight, and tomorrow. On Sunday, lake effect chances gradually move west ward across the South Shore towards the Twin Ports and the North Shore as winds shift out of the northeast.
We’ll have to get back in the habit of dressing warmer. Temps start off in mid-40s today, but we don’t see much change in the afternoon as highs stay in mid-40s to near 50. We’ll fall into mid-30s to near 40 tonight with patchy frost possible, mostly away from Lake Superior. Similarly cool highs repeat Saturday and again on Sunday. Saturday night may have thick enough clouds to keep temps a touch milder, but 30s are still possible. Sunday night has the better chance for widespread lows near freezing with the growing season expected to come to an end.
