Over half a foot of snow so far for portions of the South Shore, more likely today
Lake-effect snow began along the South Shore on Sunday, October 16. Here are the snowfall reports received so far:
7:00 am 10/17 – 1 ESE Bergland – 11.4 in – Ontonagon County
4:54 am 10/17 – Gile – 9.0 in – Iron County
5:43 am 10/17 – 1 W Ironwood – 7.9 in – Gogebic County
6:25 am 10/17 – Paulding – 5.8 in – Ontonagon County
6:00 am 10/17 – Greaney – 3 in – St. Louis County
2:47 am 10/17 – Hurley, WI – 2.5 in – Iron County
6:00 am 10/17 – 11 WSW Watersmeet – 2.0 in – Gogebic County
Heavy lake-effect snow will continue for portions of northwest Wisconsin and the U.P. for the remainder of the day. Given the high snowfall rates experienced so far, an additional 4-8” of snow is likely for the Penokee range. Northern Bayfield County will likely receive another 2-4” of snow.
