Heat takes the focus of the forecast for Labor Day weekend. Near-critical fire weather is possible each day today through Monday as low humidity and gusty winds allow any fires that develop to spread rapidly. Check local burning restrictions before burning. Winds will be the strongest today and Monday with gusts around 25 mph. Our Friday is mostly sunny with widespread highs in the 80s. We stay mild tonight with lows in mid-50s to mid-60s under partly cloudy skies.
Saturday is when the heat begins with highs ranging from mid-80s to mid-90s. The warmest days will be Sunday and Monday with highs ranging from low to upper 90s. Daily record highs will be in jeopardy both days. We will also be close to record warm lows both days with lows staying in mid-60s to low 70s. Be sure to hydrate, move activities outside of peak heating hours, and take frequent breaks in shade or A/C. Keep a close eye on children and pets.
Tuesday will be another hot day with highs in 80s and 90s, but it should end our dry stretch. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. By Wednesday, we begin to trend cooler with highs back in the 70s. By Thursday, it’ll feel like September with highs in mid-60s to low 70s.
