Brandon Weatherz: Cool and gloomy start to the week

Our workweek begins cool and gloomy. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for South St. Louis, Aitkin, Carlton, Pine, Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, And Iron Co. until 10 am. Areas of dense fog are expected to return tonight into Tuesday morning. A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for the Head of Lake Superior starting at 2 pm today due to a high risk for rip currents. Skies will be generally cloudy with periods of rain today, tonight, into tomorrow, then skies clear from the north Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms begin in north central Minnesota this morning. Rain fills out east central Minnesota, the Arrowhead, and edges into northwest Wisconsin this afternoon and evening. Storms won’t be severe, but locally heavy rain is possible. Rain chances remain rather widespread overnight through Tuesday morning, then we dry out Tuesday afternoon. Most areas should pick up between .1” and .5” with locally higher amounts where storms set up.
Highs today range from mid-50s to mid-60s looking from north to south with around 60 in the Twin Ports. Tonight’s lows will be in mid to upper 40s. Tuesday is cooler yet with most areas staying in the 50s. By Tuesday night, clear skies and light winds will allow for lows in mid-30s to low 40s. Areas away from Lake Superior may see frost. The sun comes out Wednesday with highs in the 60s. We warm into 70s Thursday, then a cold front brings a chance for showers Thursday night into Friday. The weekend is shaping up to be relatively quiet and seasonable.
