Another mild day lies ahead before we settle into cooler conditions for a seasonable mid-September weekend. Highs range from mid-60s to mid-70s today with 73 in the Twin Ports. Two cold fronts sweep the Northland today, both bringing rain chances. The first front begins draped near the I-35 corridor this morning and it keeps widespread rain mostly in northwest Wisconsin through the morning into the early afternoon.
The second cold front will similarly be placed near the I-35 corridor up across Lake County around 2 pm this afternoon, and that’s when additional showers and thunderstorms develop. The Twin Ports are on the western edge of potential for an isolated severe thunderstorm with hail as the main hazard. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Storms follow the front across northwest Wisconsin into the evening with the severe threat diminishing by 7 pm.
Koochiching County and northern St. Louis County will be grazed by rain chances moving south of the Canadian border this evening. Showers remain possible along the border overnight. Skies will be partly cloudy with lows in mid-40s to low 50s. Saturday features highs in the mid-60s, partly cloudy skies, and a chance for a passing sprinkle. Saturday night sends temps in low to upper 40s under partly cloudy skies. Sunday is mostly sunny with highs once again staying in the 60s. A warming trend arrives as we head into next week with widespread 70s expected Tuesday through Thursday.
