Starting Small

The next generation of skiers and snowboarders all congregated at the bottom of Chester Bowl over winter break. The Learn to Ski program ran through the holidays as many new beginners learned how to navigate the bunny hill and returning learners tackled the bigger hill above.

Plenty of parents and instructors spent the afternoon cheering on the young shredders as many kids learned to love the life long winter sports.

Elise Storm learned to ski herself at Chester Bowl, and now has her daughter geared up for the lessons this winter. She notes the importance of getting kids outside and having them start on skis at a young age.

“Yeah. I think it’s so important to have. She’s three. She’ll be four in February. And so to just have them start young and learn to make the mistakes and learn to fall and just keep getting up and getting better and better throughout the winter.”

The community at Chester Bowl has been along side many generations and continues to have such a shared excitement for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors.

“I think it’s so amazing that this is in the heart of our city and that it really is run by volunteers. So much of it. And so it feels like this really safe space to bring our kids because there’s so many parents here kind of watching out for everyone. And, you know, everyone’s really bought into the success of the program as well.”

With such strong support at Chester Bowl, these young skiers and snowboarders are off to a great start!
