Brandon Weatherz: Showers and falling temps today
Our Tuesday starts mild with mid-30s to mid-40s and a few light rain showers in northern Minnesota. A cold front sweeps the Northland today with scattered rain showers moving from north to south, and snow may enter the mix from the north through the day as well. No flakes will stick with warm surface temps. A stray thunderstorm is possible near and south of the Head of Lake Superior this afternoon before we dry out. Highs range from mid-40s north to upper 50s south, but temps will take a hit in the afternoon for the Twin Ports and other shoreline communities as winds shift out of the east.
Skies will mostly cloudy overall, then clearing skies tonight will set the stage for temps to bottom out in the 20s. Wednesday features sunshine and 50s for inland communities. An east wind around 10 mph will keep areas near Lake Superior cooler in the 40s. This effect will repeat on Thursday as areas away from Lake Superior warm into the 60s with partly cloudy skies.
Needed moisture should come to the Northland in two rounds. One system brings wet weather Friday into Saturday, and a second system will bring rain chances Sunday into Monday. Both systems will also bring breezy winds with the strongest winds expected on Sunday out of the east.
