Our Wednesday features a blustery north wind around 20-25 mph with gusts near 40 mph. The highest gusts approaching 50 mph and greatest chance for minor wind damage will be areas in a Wind Advisory. That includes the North Shore of Lake and Cook County until 3 pm, and Washburn, Sawyer, and Price County until 10 pm. The strong north winds will continue to direct lake and terrain enhanced snow along the South Shore.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 am Thursday for Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, and Gogebic County where additional snow after 7 am Wednesday up to 9″ is possible locally near Mellen, Montreal, and Ironwood. Amounts will drop off quickly moving north, south, and west of that narrow band of the heaviest snow.

Periods of snow are possible for the South Shore through Thursday morning, then we’ll enter a dry and sunnier stretch that will take us through the weekend. This same period is accompanied by a warming trend. Today features a spread from low 30s where snow lingers in Wisconsin to mid-40s in North Central Minnesota with a high near 43 in the Twin Ports. Tonight sees us into 20s to low 30s, then Thursday’s spread will be mid-30s by Ironwood to near 50 by Brainerd. A breezy north wind continues along with a mix of clouds and sun.

Friday will see winds shift out of the east, leading to cooler conditions near Lake Superior. This trend will be consistent each day through Monday while 50s become common inland starting on Saturday.
