Brandon Weatherz: Morning fog and evening rain

April 30: Morning fog and evening rain

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

Areas of fog are a contender for the morning commute. Allow time to take it slow, keep plenty of distance between vehicles, and be sure to use the low beams. Fog gradually improves in the late morning and early afternoon. Once that clears, clouds should break up a bit in the afternoon. Temps start out in mid-30s to low 40s today, then it’ll shape up to be warmer than the last few days with highs in low 50s to low 60s looking from north to south across the region. Winds are lighter out of the southwest in the morning, then a shift to an east wind this afternoon could allow temps to fall near Lake Superior.

A quick round of accumulating rain will start to move into the Northland from central Minnesota after about 4 pm. We look south of Duluth in east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin for the greatest chance of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall this evening and overnight. The rest of the region will see generally moderate rainfall with between 0.25″ and 1″ expected for most of the Northland. Locally higher amounts are possible in storms. It’ll also be breezy tonight with an east wind developing. Lows stay above freezing ranging from mid-30s to mid-40s.

Wednesday morning will have us drying out quickly with showers exiting to the north. A breezy west wind kicks in behind the departing system and temps push into 50s and 60s. Yet another low pressure system will cross the region on Thursday with widespread rain during the day. We stay in mid-40s to mid-50s with a gusty east wind. A lower chance for showers lingers Friday morning, mostly in north central Minnesota. Winds shift back out of the west. We should continue to have a west wind with minimal influence from Lake Superior on our temperatures through the weekend. An east wind looks to return on Monday.
