Justin Liles: Clearing skies and more sunshine

April 23rd: A period of sunshine and warmth

A period of sunshine and warmth

We have all said at one point living or being in Duluth “just wait ten minutes and the weather will change.” We saw the full gamut of weather today. Temperatures were in the 50s, followed by some light rain, then a wind shift that drop the temperatures by the lake 10° in a matter of 1hr. We saw some snow, sleet, and sunshine. All of this occurred in a matter of 12 hours. As a meteorologist this is fun for us. I know this was likely annoying to others.

Skies will continue to clear overnight leading to more sunshine Wednesday and Thursday. Winds will continue to be off the lake, making shoreline communities much cooler than farther inland. On Thursday, many Northlanders are going to feel temperatures return to the 60s. By this weekend cooler temperatures arrive with some rain, wind, and possibly some thunderstorms. Things kick off Friday and last through the weekend. This will be some much-needed rain to our extremely dry region. Warmer weather and sun return by the middle of next week.
