Justin Liles: Ending the month warm and dry

September 30th: Getting cooler and staying dry

Getting cooler and staying dry

Well, it’s official. This September will go down as the warmest September on record and the 2nd driest on record. These dry conditions are abnormally dry and moderately dry. Drought conditions have been expanding recently, due to dry and warm weather.

Many places are seeing running low and fire danger is increasing. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for central and north-central Minnesota where humidity will be the lowest. This includes Aitken and Itasca counties until later this evening. Dry conditions and breezy winds continue Tuesday, which will lead to near critical fire weather conditions. Fires can spread quickly in these conditions. Check burn restrictions before burning.

The good news is a cold front sliding through this evening may bring a few drops of water. Most of it will likely evaporate before hitting the ground. Temperatures will be much cooler the rest of the week. The warmest day looks to be Wednesday. Breezy conditions will likely stay through the majority of the week.
