Justin Liles: Heavy rain this weekend likely
How ironic is it that yesterday’s flooding around the Northland was nearly 12 years later to the day of the floods in 2012. Most of the region experienced as much anywhere from 3-7” of rain or more. Communities will be cleaning up for a while especially across the Iron Range, up by Lake Vermilion, the Silver Bay and Beaver Bay areas, Duluth, and parts of Wisconsin.
Partly cloudy skies will persist this evening until high clouds build in from the southwest overnight. Rain chances will increase again Thursday rain chances slowly through the day. Several rounds of rainfall are expected Thursday through the weekend. For now, the most likely areas for measurable rainfall are generally south of a line from Bemidji to Two Harbors and over all northwest Wisconsin. The exact track of the rain is a little in question.
Grandma’s Marathon weather isn’t looking too good right now. Rainfall amounts may approach 3 inches by early Sunday in East Central Minnesota and West Central Wisconsin. The greatest potential for heavy rain will be Friday night through Saturday night. Sunshine returns Sunday and then a stretch of drier weather does too.
