May 21st: Evening rain and thunderstorms

Evening rain and thunderstorms

The Northland is under a Flood Watch from until 7am Wednesday morning. An additional 1-3” is likely all over with some areas seeing even more farther west toward Bemidji. This storm system will also bring strong and gusty northeast winds Tuesday night into Wednesday, gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible. Winds then turn to the WSW Wednesday, and continue to be gusty. Winds will likely be in the 15-25 mph sustained winds early Wednesday morning.

Severe storms may accompany these winds Tuesday night into Wednesday through Northern Wisconsin. The threat of large hail, damaging winds, flooding, and isolated tornadoes are possible. The strongest storms look to stay mainly southeast. The Hayward Lakes area to Ashland and east of that line up through the U.P. of Michigan will be the focal point though this evening. As we enter the evening hours from 5pm to 10pm, weather looks quite busy.
