Justin Liles: Rain returns in time for Grandma’s Marathon

June 20th: More rain on the way

More rain on the way

All eyes are on the North Shore and Canal Park over the next 48 hours. The runners have begun to arrive in Duluth and the weather is on everybody’s mind. Moderate to locally heavy rainfall is mainly expected in east-central Minnesota and across northwest Wisconsin Friday into Saturday when 0.75 to 1.5 inches of rain may fall. The heaviest rainfall ends Saturday evening. Non-severe thunderstorms are possible Friday. Strong to isolated severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon in northwest Wisconsin, but signals for these severe storms have decreased over the last 24 hours.

However, light rainfall continues into Sunday daytime, ending last in the Arrowhead Sunday evening. Winds will be rather gusty off the lake and temperatures will be in the 50s. If you factor in the rain and wind, temperatures may feel as if they are in the 40s. Rain gear is highly encouraged for runners and spectators. There is a chance of some pop-up showers Sunday. Sunshine is set to return Sunday and last through the middle of next week.
