Justin Liles: Severe storm Saturday Morning and Afternoon!
Late last night the models changed significantly. It originally looked like we were going to have a small chance of seeing some severe storms due to how warm it was going to be. Now, it looks like the cold front coming in from Canada is going to pack more of a punch. The moisture, the heat, and now the trigger mechanism are coming together for some severe storms. Damaging winds over 60+ mph will be the biggest threat. Heavy rainfall could also lead to some localized flooding.
Storms will start to our northwest around 8am and intensify into a squall line by late morning-early afternoon. This line of thunderstorms looks to have the signatures for potential straight-line winds. The biggest areas of concern will be the Brainerd lakes area, Aikin County, Carlton County, and Pine County on the Minnesota side. In Wisconsin the focal point will be Burnett, Washburn, Douglas, and Sawyer Counties.
