Justin Liles: Severe storms this evening

June 18th: Storms continue to roll through

Storms continue to roll through

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue this evening ahead of a cold front. Parts of the Northland along the Iron Range have picked up as much as 5-6” or more. Flash flood warning have been issued in these areas until late this evening. Strong to severe thunderstorms can produce large hail up to 1.75 inches, gusty and erratic winds up to 70 mph, and a chance for a tornado or two.

There is also the potential for flash flooding across much of northeast Minnesota, as an additional 2-6″ of rain falls today through tonight.

RAIN FALL AMOUNTS SO FAR

Expect a wind shift to occur this evening into tonight from south to northwest following the passage of the cold front. Cooler temps are expected tomorrow. Looking ahead to late this week into the weekend, additional showers and thunderstorms are possible. This means we are looking at a wet and windy Friday and Saturday for Grandma’s Marathon races.
