Justin Liles: Storms on track for the Northland

June 10th: Showers this week

Showers this week

Cold conditions are likely across some parts of the Northland tonight. A Frost Advisory is in play for the U.P. of Michigan from 1am Tuesday to 7am Tuesday. Shower and thunderstorm chances return beginning overnight and last through much of the week. Some storms on Tuesday and Wednesday could be strong to severe. A strong low-pressure system moving through the region on Wednesday will bring showers and storms to the area. Some of these storms could become severe on Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, with the best potential from the Brainerd Lakes east into northwest Wisconsin.

With breezy southerly winds this could be the energy we need to see some large storms to develop. Dewpoints are expected to climb into the 60s. Very large hail (2″+) and damaging wind gusts are the main threats. It will also be a very warm day with temperatures in the 80s across much of the region. Wednesday will begin to feel humid too. More isolated storms pop up again Thursday. Friday looks to be the nicest day of the week. This weekend looks but we could be looking more thunderstorms Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning.
