Justin Liles: Thick fog tonight, Severe storms tomorrow

Another nice day with ample sunshine started our work week. Many parts of the region climbed into the 70s. We did wake up to some rather thick fog this morning that cleared out rather quickly. More thick fog is expected tonight and likely create slower drive times tomorrow morning heading off to work. Most of the fog will likely lift by mid-morning ahead of a strong cold front set to pass through the Northland. This front will be the catalyst for some strong storms to develop from west to east beginning at 3pm. It will likely push east of the U.P. of Michigan by 11pm.

Rainfall amounts of a quarter of an inch up to an inch are forecast. Some locations may receive as much as 2 to 3 inches should storms track repeatedly over the same areas. The biggest threat for flooding will be east central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin, because of heavy rains experienced this past Sunday.

Damaging winds and large hail will be the other threat around the region. Scattered showers are forecast on Wednesday as cooler air aloft pivots southward over the Northland. The cooler air aloft will persist through Friday and Saturday giving a chance of showers and isolated storms each day.
