Lea Zmurko: 2025 will be a breeze!

January 1: A breezy beginning to the year

Overall the upcoming week will be quite and cold. Temperatures will fall below normal as winds persist from the northwest.

As the ball dropped light snow started up and a few remaining flakes will continue today. The New Year will be breezy with cloudy skies. Winds will come in from the northwest at 10-15 mph with gusts of 20 mph sustained winds all day. The snow flurries will wrap up in the afternoon as more clouds scatter apart.

Snow accumulation remains minimal for many this week except for the South Shore. Lake effect snow showers will be persistent for northern portions of Iron and Bayfield County and more than an inch or two will fall by Friday. The bulk of the snow will fall across the UP due to the strong westerly component of the winds this week.

As we look ahead to the weekend frigid air will be very prominent. The air will be cold, wind chills will be negative, but the sun will be bright. Cold Weather Advisories may be warranted for the Arrowhead as the Northern portions may drop as low as -30F.
