Lea Zmurko: A chilly and dry January

January 2: Chilly but dry air!

Chilly conditions will be sticking around through the weekend as temperatures trend cooler then normal.

Temperatures will continue to fall, but skies remain rather dry as light snow flurries will leave the Northland with minimal accumulation for the start of the year.

There will be a few dustings of snow across the Range but else where the scattered flakes will just blow by your window and grounds will look the same. The only hot spot for snowfall accumulation this week will be along the South Shore. Lake effect snow showers will continue as winds from the northwest cross Lake Superior. Snowfall will remain under an inch for most but across northern Iron County and northward into the Upper Peninsula 3 to 5 inches of snow is possible by the end of the week.

By Saturday flurries will stop, and sunshine will be strong. Winds will remain elevated and temperatures staying cold across the region wind chills will be nearing advisory criteria.
