February 5: Clouds building in ahead of snow

It will be a cool day ahead of the anticipated snow storm tonight as the region expects 2-6 inches of snow by Thursday morning.

Another chilly morning across the Northland as many start the day in the single digits. Winds will remain calm as some cloud coverage starts to build in.

Snow starts up later in the afternoon and will continue overnight as 2-6 inches coat the region. Southeast winds will encourage additional lake effect precipitation for the North Shore

When the snow final sputters out on Thursday afternoon the winds will be noticeably gusty as the westward winds will be moving in at 30-40 mph. The higher wind speeds will be spotted down by Lake Superior into Friday morning.

With the windy afternoon following the fresh snowfall, snow squalls are likely across the Arrowhead and north central Minnesota.

We will end the week off with one more snow system crossing the Northland Saturday morning with over 2 inches of snow south of US-2 and then very cold air will follow as we look ahead into next week.
