Lea Zmurko: It will be a hot summer weekend

July 12: feeling the heat this weekend

The hot stretch continues. The weekend will continue with temperatures well above 80 degrees and humid conditions through Monday. Few isolated storms will pass Saturday and Monday nights to bring in relief and cooler conditions for next week.

The Northland will still be seeing hot weather as we move into the weekend. The next few days will be in between minor to moderate Heat Risk as all should stay mindful of the risks of dehydration and heat exhaustion. Look for shade and stay safe this weekend.

Temperatures will rise well into the 80s and some areas further inland nearing 90 degrees over the course of the weekend. The heat and humidity is no joke for the next few days, mornings will feel muggy and afternoons will be bright and hot. Take advantage of the cooler parts of the early morning and right around sunset as temperatures start to drop and cool off for the evening.

Those humid and hazy conditions will finally break when storms arrive Saturday afternoon. There is a chance for severe weather and localized minor flooding as storms pass through the northwestern portions of Minnesota and into Wisconsin. The key risks will be damaging winds and large hail. The rain will pass through in series of isolated systems starting in the afternoon on Saturday and continuing through the overnight.

This heat wave will diminish after the showers clear and temperatures will remain moderate to below average by the middle of next week.
