Lea Zmurko: Sending a spooky chill across the Northland tonight

October 31: A chilling Halloween forecast

Temperatures will drop across the Northland into the mid 30 as winds from the north persist.

The overnight rain will transition into snow as the sun rises this morning. The wintry mix will start further to the west in the morning and then the snow will trek east through northern Wisconsin throughout the afternoon.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect along the I -35 corridor to the Twin Ports and then out towards the UP. This will remain in place through the evening as 1-4” of snow is expected

Snow amounts will remain minimal down near the water as the lake is still too warm.  Most of the snow is expected to fall across the higher elevations in Douglas County and then continuing eastward.

Like most early season snow events, a limiting factor is the warm air near the surface as most of the Northland is starting the day in the low 40s, but winds from the northeast will bring in cooler air overnight as we see mid 30s and upper 20s for most of Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

It will be wet and heavy snow that will stick to the grassy surfaces more so than blacktop and pavement. Boots will be helpful for Trick or Treaters tonight as the snow may turn into slushy conditions along sidewalks and walking paths.

Temperature will be returning to the upper 40s and low 50s tomorrow, so the snowfall accumulated today will be gone by the weekend. The wet weather pattern also continues into next week as more rain showers will pass through on Friday night and Sunday into Monday.
