Lea Zmurko: Starting with some sun, and ending in showers across the Northland

July 4: A cloudy Independence Day

An eastward wind along with increasing cloud coverage during the afternoon will bring in that relief and breeze. The highs for today are in the low 70s and it will start to cool down as the sun sets.

It will be a cloudy day with some peaks of sunshine in the morning for the region.

A low-pressure system to our south will be strengthening today as it moves east increasing the chances for widespread showers and a few isolated thunderstorms in southern Minnesota that will eventually spread northeast reaching parts of Wisconsin by the late afternoon

The active weather will spread across the Northland by the afternoon with moderate rainfall for tonight and Friday. Light showers will arrive along the North Shore by 10 PM tonight. The rainfall will continue overnight.

The biggest threat with this system is localized heavy rainfall through these regions overnight. An additional 0.5-1.5 inches projected to fall from Brainerd Lakes to Moose Lake and then into Ashland Wisconsin.

The system will finally clear by late Friday night and Saturday will have the best chance for sunshine this weekend. Active weather patterns will continue Sunday night with another rough of isolated storms arriving for the start of next week.
