February 23: Clouds overnight give morning fog

The temperatures continue to climb but with incoming clouds and warm air advection the Northland can expect to see more fog and mixed precipitation soon.

The warm air and evaporative cooling from some snowmelt will leave low lying clouds to hang close to the surface in the early mornings. The Northland will see plenty of fog to start the day as the temperature trend continues to climb for a few more days.

This warm trend will lead to some evenings and early mornings with slick and messy conditions as precipitation varies in types creating a wintry mix in the upcoming days. There is a high chance for the snow, sleet and rain to start late in the afternoon and continue overnight.

Morning commutes on Monday look to be a mess as the precipitation will quickly freeze coming into contact on the surface as the overnight temperatures remain in the teens and low twenties. Precipitation amounts remain light, but the different varieties falling across the Northland is what will cause the most trouble across the Arrowhead and northwest Wisconsin.

Looking ahead into the workweek more of the precipitation will stick to the southern tier of the region with light rain for Monday night into Tuesday morning from Brainerd Lakes through Hinkley to Sandstone and Hayward Wisconsin. The light snow and sleet will fall along the Canadian Boarder and out along the Arrowhead.
