Lea Zmurko: Winds diminish but the cold sticks around

December 5: Cold temperatures, but sun in the skies

Staying cold for another morning as high pressure moves in for a clear and crispy afternoon around the Northland.

Temperatures remain in the teens with winds from the northwest. It will feel like temperatures are sub zero from the Twin Ports to the Range as the windchill plays a big factor in what it feels like as we head out the door. Some flurries will continue to fly by as low clouds will be widespread this morning.

The snow and strong winds will decrease through the afternoon and the day part will remain clear with a good amount of sunshine in northern Minnesota as lake effect snow continues to hit the South Shore.

We will see a subtle warming trend through the weekend as temperatures bump up into the mid-30s by Saturday afternoon. Ice formation is likely as the snow melts and temperatures stay above freezing for the daypart before the cold front follows.

Some light snow is expected tomorrow with less than an inch accumulating across the Northland. However, more winter precipitation is expected at the end of the weekend with a wintry mix stretching south of the Twin Ports and along I-35 corridor into central Wisconsin. This will then switch to widespread snow by the beginning of the week.
