Brandon Weatherz: Nice weekend after a round of snow
Our Friday starts off cool with temps in single digits and teens, then we’ll enjoy a gradual warming trend over the weekend through next week. There’s only one widespread round of precipitation on the horizon, and it’s this evening into tomorrow morning.
Snow first reaches into Koochiching and Itasca counties around 4 pm where travel may become slick for the evening commute. Snow will fill out northeast Minnesota through the evening and reach east into Wisconsin. Freezing rain and rain may also be in the mix, especially south of the Twin Ports from Aitkin to Hayward.
Ice accumulation is possible from the Brainerd Lakes area to around the Head of Lake Superior and into much of northwest Wisconsin. A flash freeze is also possible as falling temps allow wet conditions to turn icy. Snow accumulation will be a general 1-3″ near and north of U.S. Hwy 2. We could see 2-4″ from the Iron Range to the Canadian border and across the Arrowhead.
