Brandon Weatherz: Clear and cooler start to the week
Following a smoky and summery Sunday, today will be a touch cooler and clearer. Air quality early this morning ranges from unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all, but cleaner air is expected to settle into the region from the northeast through the day. Even though it’ll be less smoky at the surface, we’ll still have a gray haze in the skies.
Highs today will generally range from near 60 north to near 70 south for inland communities in the Northland. Shoreline communities will be in low to upper 50s as winds shift from north to east through the day. Lake Superior’s influence on our temperatures will be stronger starting Tuesday with an east wind around 15 mph, meanwhile temps away from the lake will climb back into the 60s. We’ll continue to have “cooler by the lake” conditions each day through Saturday with a consistent east wind.
We’ll stay dry through Tuesday. Rain builds back into Minnesota from the west Wednesday afternoon and evening, then the Northland will see scattered showers overnight into Thursday morning. Additional periods of shower and thunderstorm chances are currently possible Friday through Sunday.
