Brandon Weatherz: Tuesday showers followed by sunshine
A cold front drops across the Northland from the north through the day today with scattered showers ahead of the front in the morning and additional showers and a few storms on the backside of the front through the afternoon. Accumulation stays generally under a tenth of an inch with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Temps start mild in mid-40s to low 50s, then highs stay in low to mid-60s. Skies stay mostly cloudy overall, then skies clear this evening and tonight as high pressure settles into the region.
That surface high will bring the ingredients for a cool and frosty night for some. Lows will be in mid-30s to low 40s with a Frost Advisory in effect along and north of the Iron Range. Clear skies will then allow for abundant sunshine on Wednesday. Temps rise nicely into upper 60s to low 70s away from Lake Superior, but an east wind will keep lakeside areas in the 50s.
Frost is once again possible Wednesday night, particularly in northwest Wisconsin. The “cooler by the lake” effect repeats Thursday while 70s fill out the region. Rain returns from the west Thursday night into Friday morning as a front crosses the region. This will be the start of an unsettled weather pattern that will keep periodic showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through the weekend and into the start of next week.
