Brandon Weatherz: Both rain and sun for the Wisconsin Fishing Opener

May 3: Both rain and sun for the Wisconsin Fishing Opener

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for the North Shore and Head of Lake Superior until 8 am. Be ready to use low beam headlights and adjust speed this morning for visibility near a quarter mile or less in spots. Visibility will improve nicely from the southwest through mid-morning as a breezy southwest wind begins to drive drier air into the region. It’ll shape up to be a rather sunny day with warmth. Highs range from mid-50s by International Falls to nearly 70 for Ashland.

Clouds build from the west this evening along with rain chances reaching from east central Minnesota into the Arrowhead. Rain will slowly move from west to east overnight and through Saturday morning. Additional showers may pop up in the Arrowhead Saturday evening. All said and done, around a half inch is possible from the I-35 corridor across the Twin Ports and up the North Shore, then reaching into northwest Wisconsin about as far east as Hayward. Amounts drop off moving near and west of the Iron Range.

Apart from the rain, Saturday is mostly cloudy with highs in the 50s. Anglers in Wisconsin will want to have a rain coat on hand. Fortunately, there shouldn’t be a lightning threat with this round. Sunday sees a return to widespread 60s and sunshine. Anglers should plan to break out the sunscreen for the second day of the Wisconsin Fishing Opener. An east wind looks to return on Monday to keep areas immediately near Lake Superior much cooler in the 40s. Meanwhile, inland areas should be in the 70s. Accumulating rain chances return Monday night into Tuesday.
