Brandon Weatherz: One more dry day before a wet pattern begins
Our Thursday starts with areas of frost possible in the Arrowhead and northwest Wisconsin. A light jacket is needed early on for this brisk start to the day, but we’ll soon be back in shorts and t-shirts as highs top off in mid-70s away from Lake Superior today. Expect a high near 70 for the Duluth International Airport, meanwhile a southeast wind keeps lakeside areas in the mid-50s. We can thank surface high pressure for one more day of abundant sunshine before we enter an unsettled weather pattern with periodic rain chances in the region starting tonight and continuing each day through the start of next week.
Showers and thunderstorms build into north central Minnesota from the west this evening and cross the Twin Ports into northwest Wisconsin overnight. Rain tapers off Friday morning, then additional rain chances begin in Wisconsin in the afternoon and expand from the south Friday night into Saturday morning. High pressure will bring decreasing clouds Saturday, then another system emerging from the Dakotas will bring showers and thunderstorms to the Northland Sunday afternoon and overnight with rain tapering off Monday morning.
