Brandon Weatherz: Warm away from Lake Superior today
A breezy east wind will make all the difference with temps today. Expect to stay in the 40s immediately near Lake Superior, then temps climb into to 60s on the hill in Duluth and inland areas manage low 70s today. Tonight stays mild with lows in 40s to 50s with the coolest conditions near Lake Superior. Cloud cover increases ahead of rain building in from the south.
Tuesday will then be wet with moderate to heavy rain sweeping the Northland from southwest to northeast through the morning and afternoon. Inland areas top off in 50s and 60s with an east wind around 20 mph keeping the shorelines cooler once again. Additional thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening, particularly in east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Small hail and gusty winds are possible in these areas with the severe threat staying mostly south of Siren and Hayward.
Rain tapers off Tuesday night with a few showers lingering on Wednesday, mostly along the Canadian border. All said and done, rain late Monday night through Tuesday night will generally range from a quarter of an inch to an inch with higher amounts possible locally. Areas seeing lower amounts look to be near the international border and toward Ironwood.
