Sabrina Ullman: Light snow in northern Minnesota tonight
Tonight will be cloudy with a light southeast wind of 5-15 mph. Overnight lows will be mostly in the 20s. A few spots in southern Pine and Burnett Counties will only drop to 30 degrees.
There is a chance of light snow in northern Minnesota tonight into Monday. The vast majority of the Northland will have no accumulation, but we will see at least a tenth of an inch of snow along and north of the Iron Range. Areas close to and including International Falls will have 2-4 inches of accumulation.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Koochiching County and the northern portion of St. Louis County, in effect from 3 am to noon Monday. The morning commute may be slick in this area.
Rain will mix in with the snow on Monday afternoon. Monday’s highs will be in the 30s near the international border, in the low 50s south of Hayward, and in the 40s in-between those areas. Temperatures will be more consistent this week than last with afternoon highs mostly in the 30s to low 40s.
There is a chance for widespread snow Tuesday into Wednesday, depending on the track of a low-pressure system. Right now, it is expected to impact areas south and east of the Twin Ports.
The current expected track would result in under an inch of accumulation for most of the Northland and around 1-3 inches for Sawyer, Ashland, Iron, and Gogebic Counties. If the track shifts to the west, we could see widespread 1-3 inches in Minnesota and some areas in northern Wisconsin getting up to a foot of snow. The Storm Track Weather Team will continue to monitor this potential and post updates accordingly as it gets closer to storm arrival.
