Sabrina Ullman: Quiet weather continues

January 1: Calm weather continues

Lake-effect snow is likely for the South Shore, but the rest of the week will otherwise be calm.

We are starting the new year off with temperatures near normal, and the cooling trend will continue. Overnight lows will be in the single digits in the Twin Ports and areas north and in the teens elsewhere.

As winds pick up from the northwest, lake-effect snow will return to the South Shore tonight. There will be intermittent chances of light snow stretching from Ashland into the U.P. through Friday, but accumulations are expected to be under three inches.

Thursday will be breezy with afternoon highs in the teens. By Saturday, highs will be in the single digits, and overnight lows will drop below zero. We will see temperatures rise to the teens early next week, but there will likely be another cold front late next week.
