Sabrina Ullman: Snow tonight should stick around
Today will be cloudy with afternoon highs ranging from 31 degrees in Bemidji to 40 degrees in Spooner. There is a chance of a few early morning flurries, but conditions will otherwise stay quiet until the evening.
By around 5 pm this evening, we will start to see light snow in western Koochiching County and areas south as a weak clipper enters the region. This system will reach the Twin Ports at around 7 pm with mixed precipitation likely by the head of the lake and rain expected in northern Wisconsin. By midnight, the precipitation type will be snow throughout the Northland.
Chances of snow will gradually diminish for most of the Northland by Monday afternoon. Lingering snow will last into Tuesday morning for the South Shore as this low-pressure system moves eastward.
Accumulations will be under two inches for most of the area. Elevated portions of the North Shore may see three inches. The U.P. and portions of Iron County will have up to half a foot of snow.
The South Shore Snow Belt will get a break from precipitation for roughly 24 hours. As winds become northwesterly over the relatively warm waters of Lake Superior, we will see lake-effect snow starting on Wednesday. Chances of snow on the South Shore will continue through the rest of the week.
There is also a chance of light snow throughout the Northland Wednesday night through Thanksgiving Day. Accumulations look minimal currently, but the Storm Track Weather Team will continue providing updates as it gets closer.
