Sabrina Ullman: Some snow Saturday and Sunday
It has been a while, but we are finally getting a snowstorm. There will be enough for plows to be needed, but the impact will be limited to tonight and early Sunday.
It will be snowy tonight with overnight lows ranging from 12 degrees in Baudette to 20 degrees in Hinckley. The heaviest snow will fall late tonight, making roads slick.
More snow is likely on Sunday, mostly in the morning. Temperatures will peak at around 10 am and drop slightly. The main difference will be wind chill as a northwest wind picks up speed in the afternoon. Most of the Northland will be done with this round of snow by around 6 pm, but we will see snow showers linger into Monday for the South Shore.
Additional snow accumulations will be mostly 3-6 inches. Areas in Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, and Beltrami Counties will have 2-3 inches, and lake-effect will increase amounts for the higher terrain of the North Shore tonight and for the South Shore on Sunday.
There is a chance of light lingering snow on Monday, but the bigger story will be temperatures as we see a couple of days with afternoon highs in the single digits. Bitter cold conditions will be short-lived as temperatures climb back to around 30 later in the week.
