July 14: Sunny Sunday then more rain

Today will have clearing skies, but rain chances return late tonight.

After a nice, sunny day, rain will enter the Northland late tonight into early Monday morning. Severe thunderstorms could form early Monday morning. Damaging winds and large hail are anticipated risks with these storms, but we could also see localized flooding.

Rain will move from west to east, reaching western St. Louis County by 6 am and the Twin Ports by 7 am. Thunderstorm development will likely be in the early morning in Itasca and Koochiching Counties. Rain will become widespread by 9 am, and the first round of Monday’s rain will start to exit by noon. The second round will be isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Damaging winds and large hail are possible Monday morning (WDIO).

Monday afternoon will be muggy with afternoon highs ranging from the low 70s near the international border to the low 80s south of Two Harbors. Tuesday will be cooler with afternoon highs ranging from 68 degrees in International Falls to 78 degrees in Siren.

Wednesday will feel like quite the relief for many as afternoon highs with afternoon highs in the upper 60s to low 70s throughout the Northland. This break from heat will be short- by the end of the week, we will be back to highs in the low 80s. The only chance of rain this week is Monday. Sunny skies are likely starting Tuesday.

A 10 percent chance of showers after 5am. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 63. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

Monday

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunny, with a high near 74. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday

Sunny, with a high near 72. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Thursday

Sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Friday

Sunny, with a high near 78. Southwest wind around 5 mph.
