Sabrina Ullman: Warm-up this week

December 22: Warmer weather ahead

Temperatures will reach the upper 20s today and climb to the upper 30s by the end of the week.

Saturday was the Winter Solstice, so we will see days get longer starting today. We will also have increasing temperatures with highs in the 20s today and in the upper 30s by the end of the week.

A weak, fast-moving low-pressure system will bring light snow tonight into Monday morning. Most of the Northland can expect under an inch of snow, but we could see localized heavier amounts of 2-4 inches wherever a stronger band ends up forming. The placement of that currently looks to be more toward the Twin Cities.

Christmas Day will be dry with afternoon highs near 30 degrees. For context, last Christmas was the warmest on record with a high of 46 degrees in Duluth.

Rain is likely Friday and Saturday with mixed precipitation possible overnight. By the end of Hanukkah, we should see temperatures closer to normal.
