Registration and a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $75 including breakfast and supplies. Learn about diversity, equity and inclusion in the work place. Watch an educational short film and participatee in a discussion highlightingthe hidden dynamics of abuse. There will be guided meditation regarding the importance of self-care. - Friday, May 3 – Toast the 20s at the Lake Superior Zoo! Swing on into the zoo for a salute to the Roaring 20’s! Join our animal ambassadors for one-of-kind encounters that will amaze and delight! Enjoy food, beer, wine, games, raffles, silent auction/silent movies with popcorn bar, bespoke desserts, coffee…and did we mention the animals? Juke and jive to our DJ’ed dancing, with Charleston/foxtrot experts to show you the moves. VIP tickets get you in at 5 pm and includes a choice of behind-the-scenes tours. Get first peek at some of our new residents while they await their spotlight, or “dare to go bear” and visit our adorable brown bears. - Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 – The Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art is hosting its eighth annual Student and Instructor Exhibition at 810 W 3rd St, Duluth. Work created by students in the youth, part time and full time programs, as well as faculty, will be on display. This work will also be available for purchase. Friday from 5 PM – 9 PM, Saturday from noon – 5 PM. This event is FREE to the public.

- Tuesday, May 7 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present its Jazz Band with the Big Time Jazz Orchestra (BTJO) in a special Scholarship Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Manion Theatre in the Holden Fine Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Ave. Proceeds from the concert will go toward a scholarship for a UW-Superior music major for excellence in jazz studies. Under the direction of Greg Kehl Moore, professor of music and jazz program director at UW-Superior, the concert will feature works by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gordan Goodwin, Pat Metheny, Charles Mingus, Bob Mintzer, Ellis Marsalis, Astor Piazzolla and Radiohead. - Saturday, May 11 – The Saint Louis County Historical Society and its Veterans Memorial Hall are holding a 5k to honor the memory of Command Sergeant Major John S. Werner. Start time is 9AM with a short ceremony prior at The Other Place Bar & Grill, 3930 East Calvary Rd, Duluth, MN 55803. The entry fee is $30. - Friday, May 17 – HDC Cloquet Outreach Center Fundraiser at 24 10th Street in Cloquet from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. It’s an evening of fun and philanthropy at the HDC Cloquet Outreach Center. There will be a lasagna dinner, including fresh salad, warm bread and dessert. There will be a silent auction and raffle draws. Adults: $10 per plate children: $5.
- Saturday, May 18 – Spaghetti Dinner in Hill City from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Hill City Fire Hall in Hill City. $10 per plate. Children under 5 eat free. Proceeds benefit the Hill City 4th of July Celebration.

- Wednesday, May 22 – Community Connect Event at the Hibbing Memorial Arena, 400 E 23rd Street in Hibbing from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Community members facing homelessness or financial challenges are invited to attend this free event. Organized in collaboration with local partners and inspired by the national Project Homeless Connect. Arrowhead Transit is offering free rides to and from the Community Connect event. There will be free food, clothing and hygiene items, hair trimming, crisis information, housing support, children and family services, mental health resources and more. - Tuesday, June 11 – St. Luke’s will hold a cancer lecture called ‘The Role of Genetics in Cancer Development and Treatment’ at the Depot from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. While genetics can play a role in developing cancer, thanks to breakthroughs in research, we can now also use genetics to predict cancer’s progression and create tailored treatments for patients. Genetics can also be used for people with a cancer diagnosis or family history of cancer to learn about their risks of developing cancer and personalize their screening plans. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Panel begins at 6 p.m. The event is in the first-floor theater of the Depot, 506 W. Michigan St. Enter through the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center entrance on the west side. A parking lot is available off W. Michigan St. and S. 6th Ave. W. and along Michigan Ave. We thank St. Luke’s Foundation for generously sponsoring this event and the cost of parking. RSVP is requested but not required.
